another jazz event

After last jazz event held by kampoeng jazz with law faculty of unpad. psychology faculty of unpad with wartajazz.com and klab jazz also held at october 23th 2008. JJE or jatinaggor jazz event held at jatinaggor. I’m so glad with it because lately I feel a rapid growth in indonesian jazz, especially for college jazz community.

JJE is a bit different from last event that held at Unpad Dipati Ukur by kampoeng jazz. Since JJE is a competition for jazz band.

There is also performance by 4 am quartet,

Bayu+Tesla, Bob Vivant, Sekapur Sirih, Contra Indigo. And special performance by Syaharani and The Queen fireworks.

Humph maybe you don’t really know about them so I make a little review about them.4 am quartet has a instrumental jazz with acoustic touch on their songs. 4 am quartet was born on 2005 with members: Sonny Akbar (piano), Edward Prasetya (guitar), Edward Manurung (drum), and Lindu Muliantara (bass) at Bandung. Their name was started to known when they performed at New Generation Mezzo Jazz Award Competition, 2006. On the 2007 the member was changed: Sonny Akbar (piano), Edward Prasetya (guitar), Edward Manurung (drum), and Chaka Priambudi Wicaksono (bass).

Bayu+Tesla another dynamic duo from Bandung. The members are Bayu (piano) and Tesla (guitar) .Their bands their friend relationship as house mate. They remind me of safari duo but in jazz version.

The Third performer that I will write is Bob Vivant. If I’m not mistaken they their first performance was at Java jazz go to campus. Their name was taken from word bop which means their style in jazz, and vivant which means joyful and lively. They brought bop style blends with standard jazz. Bop Vivant consists of 3 personnel. David Manuhutu (piano), Opik (drum), and Sonny Susetyo (bass).

Sekapur sirih formed by: Prasandhya (elektrik bass), Bonar Noviasta (guitar), Andreas Nandhiwardana (gitar), Lukman Agus (drum), Rara Utami (keyboard). First performed in Ganesha Jazz Event. Their bands begin from their interest with jazz.then after few performerd together sekapur sirih was born.they bought a smooth jazz in their music.

Contra Indigo is a unique band for me.contra indogo born from the different perception of jazz on it’s members. If you see their performace it wiill seems that Contra indigo is far from jazz. But there is still an atmosphere of jazz on their songs.

Last but not Least Syaharani & The Queenfireworks. I believe we have known them. First I know them was when I heard one of their songs from album “Buat Kamu”is kind of Easy listening jazz. I think can be enjoy by people that even not so familiar with jazz.

Are you intertest to come??personally I’m looking forward to this event???

Chet baker’s biography

He was born on December 23, 1929 in Yale. Born on a musician family. His father, Chesney Sr. was a musician who played as guitarist in local country. When Chet was 12 he started to play trumpet. He played trumpet through until college. In 1952 he won an audition with Charlie Parker, then joined Gerry Mulligan's piano less quartet. The group performed regularly at The Haig in Hollywood. In 1953, he formed his own band with Russ Freeman on piano. The Chet Baker Quartet toured and recorded with great success. After a decade, Chet started to addict with heroin and his life was full with arrests and scandals.

Chet Baker spent most of the sixties in Europe. He made some recordings in the early part of the decade. But at the late sixties he was found recording some dreadful music, and he had given up playing after losing most of his upper teeth. Years of drug use had taken his teeth, and in July of 1966 he was attacked, and his teeth were damaged further.

In the early 1970's, he began to learn how to play with dentures. In 1974, he recorded and toured regularly. With the effects of age, drugs and false teeth, he still improved in those later years. But in 1980’s his performance was unpredictable. Sometimes he would show up and perform the best gig of his career. Sometimes he would show up and perform poorly. Sometimes he wouldn't even show up.

Chet Baker's life came to a bizarre and tragic end on May 13, 1988 in Amsterdam. Chet fell from the open window of his hotel room, hitting the concrete two stories below. In my opinion it was too bad that he died in the time when he successful at peak.

Here is one of his song you make me feel so young.

You make me feel so young

You make me spring has sprung

And every time I see you grin

I’m such a happy individual

The moment that you speak

I wanna go and play hide and seek

I wanna go and bounce the moon

Just like toy balloon

You and I are just like couple of tots

Running across the meadow

Picking up lots of forget me not

You make me feel so young

You make me feel there are songs to be sung

Bells to rung and wonderful fling to be flung

And even when I’m old and grey

I’m gonna feel the way I do today

Causes you make me feel so young

You and I are just like couple of tots

Running across the meadow

Picking up lots of forget me not

Cause you make me young

Give me songs to be sung

Feels like bells to be rung

And wonderful fling should be flung

And even when I’m old and grey

I’m gonna feel the way I do today

Causes you make me feel so

You make me feel so

You make me feel so

I feel so young.
